Frank Pritchard and Sam Kasiano joined Bulldogs in the Community partner Greening Australia on Saturday, February 23 to launch Goulburn’s newest environmental community project – Growing Abilities Goulburn.
Saturday’s ceremonial tree planting represented the first trees for the restoration site which in time will become an important environmental and educational space for this great social inclusion project.
The Goulburn Mulwaree Council, in support of the project has leased land to the association for the establishment of:-
• A Botanical Garden specialising in native plants, indigenous to the local area.
• A Supported Employment Service providing vocational training and employment for people with disabilities.
This service is being established with the support of the community and council of the Goulburn Mulwaree area. Its purpose is to provide people with disabilities the ability to choose the type of supported employment that they wish to undertake. The service will specialise in the propagation of native and indigenous plants for wholesale sale to landcare groups and other nurseries.
Greening Australia, via the Great Eastern Ranges Initiative, will be restoring part of the site to its natural state in partnership with Growing Abilities Goulburn and its program participants. As well as providing biodiversity and connectivity benefits, the restoration site will be an outdoor classroom for Growing Abilities Goulburn with opportunities for participants to learn seed collection, weed control, bush regeneration and plant identification skills.
Sam and Frank were delighted to take part in such an important environmental initiative and lend a hand to Bulldogs in the Community partner Greening Australia.
