Belmore Trial a Huge Success
Monday 11 February 2013 5:28 PM
The second annual Belmore trial was held yesterday, Sunday, 10 February at the traditional home of the Bulldogs, Belmore Sports Ground.
In what was the return of the local rivalry, the NRL side took on the Newtown Jets who provided stiff competition as defending NSW Cup Premiers. The 2012 NRL Grand Finalists proved to be too big and too skilful for the Jets, running out 36-14 winners.
The first half saw a number of young, up and coming players given the opportunity to impress after slogging it out all pre-season as part of the full-time NRL squad. Whilst the second half saw a number of NRL regulars take to the field for a very beneficial 40-minute hit-out. New recruit Tony Williams was impressive on his first outing playing a good hand in attack whilst proving to be quite bruising in defence.
The Members and fans on the day loved the opportunity to see many of their heroes up close with the NRL squad joining the fans in the stands prior to their match preparation.
There was a feast of rugby league with the Bulldogs Harold Matthews, SG Ball, Holden Cup and NRL sides all in action. In even better news, each team recorded victories with all the blue and white faithful leaving with a smile on their face.
A summary of scores is as follows:
Harold Matthews: Bulldogs 62 def. Melbourne Storm 10
SG Ball: Bulldogs 28 def. Melbourne Storm 24
Holden Cup: Bulldogs 46 def. Auburn Warriors 18
NRL: Bulldogs 36 def. Newtown Jets 14
