In an unlikely partnership, the Bulldogs joined forces with South Narrabeen Surf Life Saving Club and the Variety Club on Friday, January 25th to bring to life the beach dream for 40 Aboriginal kids who made the journey from Brewarrina in the 8th annual “Bush to Beach” program.
Bulldogs star Ben Barba was special guest on the day along with Bulldogs NYC players Denzel King, Jaelen Feeney and Patrick Templeman. Manly legend Cliff Lyons was also on hand running a game of footy on the beach for the kids.
Brewarrina with a population of 1200 is 850km North West of Sydney meaning this trip and a visit to the beach was a once in a lifetime opportunity for many of the kids.
The South Narrabeen Surf Life Saving Club has been instrumental in the program since its inception with Club volunteers teaching the kids about water safety and the beach lifestyle.
Children’s participation on the program is a reward for good school attendance and an inspiring opportunity for the kids to explore outside of their community.
The Bulldogs players took the opportunity to speak with the kids, be teammates in a game of beach footy and have a swim and body board in the surf.
